A La Kamp Helsinki
In the heart of Helsinki, where the Esplanade park meets the city’s grandest boulevard, À La Kämp has emerged as one of the capital’s most compelling new dining destinations. Reborn within the historic walls of Hotel Kämp, the restaurant carries forward more than a century of culinary and social tradition. The hotel itself first opened in 1887, quickly becoming a gathering place for Helsinki’s cultural and political life. Over the decades, figures such as Jean Sibelius and other notable artists, writers and thinkers were known to meet within its celebrated bar spaces. Previously called the much-loved Kämp Bar, this landmark setting has now been reimagined as À La Kämp—an elegant brasserie that honours its storied past while embracing a renewed identity for contemporary Helsinki.
The design, led by Archer Humphryes Architects, reflects the studio’s long-standing provenance in placemaking within historic buildings, where heritage becomes the foundation for new experience. Here, the vision brings together what press coverage describes as “the elegance of Neoclassicism, the organic sensuality of Art Nouveau and the optimism of the Belle Époque,” weaving restored architectural character with refined contemporary detail. Polished mahogany, marble, satin brass and soft velvets create a layered material palette that feels both grand and intimate. A standout feature is the Winter Garden terrace, a glassed-in space overlooking Esplanade Park that is fully openable in summer, allowing the brasserie to spill out into the city’s most iconic promenade and creating a seamless connection between interior elegance and Helsinki’s outdoor life.
À La Kämp’s culinary philosophy mirrors its design approach: classic in lineage, modern in execution. Drawing inspiration from more than 80 historic menus dating back to 1890, the kitchen reinterprets Finnish and European brasserie traditions through French technique and seasonal Nordic ingredients. Signature dishes celebrate timeless flavours, served with a sense of theatre and refinement, while the champagne and wine programme adds to the restaurant’s enduring sense of occasion. More than a restaurant, À La Kämp is a vibrant continuation of Hotel Kämp’s social history—an elevated brasserie experience where past and present meet in a space shaped by Archer Humphryes’ expertise in crafting meaningful destinations within landmark settings.
