Wild Notting Hill
Archer Humphryes’ conversion of an old pub on Westbourne Grove, the concept for which had to feel organic and authentic within the Westbourne Grove/Ledbury Road community is home to Wild Notting Hill. This restaurant design is illuminated by two full length windows so daylight floods the venue from both sides where diners can either enjoy the salon and open counter kitchen or sit in a new conservatory designed by Archer Humphryes, looking into the planted garden. The chef’s team ready the dishes along a continuous marble counter to one side of the restaurant and diners can enjoy seeing dinner prepared on the open charcoal Josper grill, the centrepiece of the open kitchen.
Within the dining room, full of activity, atmosphere and the appetising scent of meals being prepared, the floor is laid in brick, the ceilings are finished in sawn timber and the walls are of exposed London stock brick. The liquor bar sits in the street window; illuminated in the evening, it draws in guests and passers-by who can either have a drink, enjoy the wine list or order from the menu.
Wild Notting Hill accommodates 90 diners within the restaurant, includes a street terrace of 24 seats and can serve a further 40 in the conservatory garden to the rear. The design includes a brick floor, exposed reclaimed brick walls, hung with textiles and paintings from local artists and Crittal windows painted gloss black, that illuminate the room through the day and glow attractively in the evening, contributing to Notting Hill’s lively and energetic street life.
George Bukhov-Weinstein, the client commented: “There’s a special energy in West London and we wanted to bring our vision of a neighbourhood restaurant experience, taking influence from Mediterranean cuisine, serving simple and delicious food with high quality ingredients”.
